I was playin a game called psychonauts and at one point in the game thers a room that is completely black. Reading that this was do to outdated drivers, I went to the website to get the new 7.1 drivers. And here's where the problems begin.

I followed the directions for installing new drivers as stated on the ati website and when I attempt to install the new ones, I get an error that says "setup was not able to complete the installation. Try to setup your display adapter with a standard vga driver before running setup." I restart the comp in vga mode and same thing happens. I used driver cleaner and got the same error. I read to remove the card from the device list, did that and still get the error. I tried the manual uninstall as well. After a bunch of failed attempts i figured I would just go back to the 6.9 drivers I had, but when I went to try to install them I got the same error  I'm at a loss here and don't have any clue what to do. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on the situation.

Well, I submitted a ticket to ati, and they redirected me to the download page and install page... A lot of help they are.

I also just noticed that my monitor is no longer being recognized by the computer. It jus shows up as "default monitor" at 1hz. I can't believe all of this is due to me just wanting to update my drivers x_X. I tried to manually install and get the error as shown in the attachment. Anyone have any idea? =(

Take a deep breath.
It's possible that the reason you suddenly found a scene in Psychonauts all black is because some part of your video card just died.
Think a minute, that game came out two years ago, if you were running 6.9 ATI drivers you were up to date as far as the game was concerned particularly if you had installed the patches the last one of which came out in Sept./Oct. 2005.

This is where you try the card in another computer and try a friends 1900 in yours.
That will show what's not working right.

Thanks for the reply pam, I wish I could try that, but unfortunately, I don't know anyone with the card nor do I have another mobo thats compatible with it. You're right about the drivers, I should have been up to date. If a part of my card died, would that explain why the comp wouldn't recognize my monitor anymore?

Now when my computer goes into hybernate mode, It doesn't wake up by any means. I have to restart the computer. Also, the auto adjust button on my monitor no longer does anything O_O.

That sounds more like a bad monitor. Can you borrow one to test with?

efaster: pam123 was tied up and couldn't respond to your query. She asked me to convey to you that the video card must be RMAed.
