This could be a cool addition to the general hardware section, or something similar.

I've recently wanted to design computer parts for fun (fans, cases, etc...), so I think might be cool to have a section where people can actually share ideas about creating ultimate parts. Whether or not they are expected to come to fruition is a different matter, but it sure would get people thinking about what would make a good component!

In essence, people would come up with ideal parts, or even try and come up with solutions that put the hardware vendors to the test. We as the consumer know full well what we want from our parts, so this could give PC Mech members a chance to design their dream component and show it off. It might get a little trickier when it comes to PSUs or CPUs and the like, but for less complex parts it could work well.

If you wanted to take a step further, design competitions could be held, and the final products presented by the contestants could be rated by other members. Lotsa possibilities.

Whaddya think?

Thanks for your suggestion, but we already have a case modding section. Actual component design is getting more specialized than these forums encompass, that's for engineers, not do it yourselfers.

But in case modding, people cannot always go with what is on their minds because they are limited to a pre-existing product instead of fully using the imagination to come up with something brand new. I'm talking like making technical diagrams and things.

Use the case modding forum to explore that, please. If we started a new forum for every idea that's come up, administration would be unmanageable.
