HELP!!! I have 7 My Documents folders and i really need to get rid of all this crap and have just ONE .

I have tinkered with computers since my first computer (which i made myself thanks to this site, too bad i cant use my old login). i am now TRYING to consolodate 6 years of files, spanning 7 computers (3 lappys, 4 desktops). Thousands of pictues and word documents, excell docs, web pages, and projects (i am a college student).

There are duplicates files, and also files that share the same name, but that are not duplicate (which i need to go through and combine into 1 file). I have all the files on several drives, which are either external drives, or one of the 5 hard drives in my main computer, so all the files can be connected to a single computer simultaneously.

I wish there was a program that would do it for me. Also, I am POOR (college student syndrome), but this tedious task more than warrants the spending of hard loaned cash if necessary, (although I'd rather keep my money if possible)

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why not right-click & rename the duplicates that you want to keep, send them all to a thumb drive and using Windows Explorer drag them into the My Documents file that you want them in.?

no matter what you decide to do, its going to take a lot of time to sort everything out.
you might think about burnning files to a dvd data disk or a cd.
you will need to sepreate them into folders so they will be easier to find when you want one.

Admin note: Please do not use large fonts and excessive line breaks. Thank you, I edited your post.

Why can't you use your old login? We don't allow multiple accounts, I have the ability to combine your accounts and set up your login the way you want, please send me a private message.

well, i have most the files on a single hard drive, it is just unorganized as a kindergarden orchestra. i know there has to be some kind of program out there that can go and sort files.
i see tons of em for mp3's. I was just hoping that someone had some experience with one, because i hate dl'ng programs, learning to use it, then finding out it sucks or is complicated, especially if I'm spending money

You can probably use the Windows search function - then sort, rename, move, etc. right from the results window.

You could use THIS (http://www.spadixbd.com/freetools/jdirprint.htm)app the view/print the contents of an entire directory. This might help you to get a better grasp of what you've got going on.
