Hello,
I recently downloaded a system diagnostic program that shows all system information; I believe I originally got it as an easy way to check which version of the bios on my motherboard. I was looking at the HDD overview and it listed my HDD Health Status as Bad. This doesn't suprise me; I've been using the same IBM Deskstar 45GB for the last 5-6 years or so.
Is there any way to know how much time I have? I'm going to start backing stuff up immediately, but I wasn't planning on a new drive right this instant, though I may be forced to.
I tried looking for hardware diagnostic tools, but it appears Hitachi has taken over IBM as fas as IDE HDDs go; I couldn't find anything on IBM's site and I have no idea if Hitachi's tools would be applicable to my IBM Deskstar.
I'm thinking of getting a SATA Seagate (5 year warranty, right), as I do have SATA on my motherboard.
