I've inserted my 2 GB SD memory card into the card reader that came with it, it seems to read fine, as I've been transferring MP3's onto the card ok...up until now.
It's now showing that 560 MB have transferred fine, and as I was continuing I now just keep getting "Cannot Copy, file or directory not created" ??

It shows that there is 1.37 GB of space left, and to this point this is the first time any information has been put onto this memory card!

Why am I having trouble getting past this point? I've been dragging and dropping to this point with no issues, now there seems to be no way I can add more MP3 files?

Any help on this issue would be appreciated!

Thanks..

Dale

Ok...a little info that I had to dig up myself on this.

Apparently, on a drive (don't know if this is only on USB type SD cards?) you can only fit so much on a "ROOT" drive! So, you can put X amount (not sure how this works) on the root drive, make a "subdirectory" and continue putting the rest of the information within the sub-directory...right up to the maximum allowable for the size of SD card you have!

I had to do a Google search to find this information, and as I had the root directory apparently full, I had to delete one MP3 file, which then allowed me to make a folder (sub-directory) in which I could then carry on adding more MP3's to fill up the rest of the card!

If someone could explain why this is, it would be very helpful to me, and I'm sure many others.

I now wonder whether I should not use the root directory at all or not, but in not knowing why this happens, I'm unsure of how to go about adding my info to an SD card.
Am I better off with 1 or 2 GB SD cards (or USB flash drives?) or should I be safe and get a 4 GB or 8 GB one?
Will the application I'm using the card on (GPS reciever, in dash music reciever, camera, cell phone etc) automatically play songs or files, within memory on the card/flash drive?
Do I have to in some way tell the reciever to look in other folders/sub-directories, or will it automatically play MP3's in all folders?

Sure would be alot easier to have all songs within the root directory (in my case) so the receiver (in dash unit in this case) can detect all songs, and play from beginning to end!

Anyone have a link for a complete explanation on these and other questions pertaining to the new drives (SD cards, USB flash drives) and how we should put files on them?

Thanks in advance.
