Hey all, Just attached a Plextor DVD-RW and it is only performing w/music,pictures and data. Thru in a movie to check that function and XP displayed an I/O device error message for the drive.Whats this potentially mean? Checked out the drivers and they're current and tried 3 different media players. Any suggestions? (Model PX-712UF)

How long have you had the drive?
The Plextor model PX-712UF isn't really great quality. I would go with a Sony.
If you just bought it, try taking it back to the people you got it from.
I don't see where a Sony anything is going to be "better" than a Plextor anything. With an external drive, an I/O device error is usually a USB issue. It's possible the drive has issues, but you need to try it on a different computer.

Truth...Cost 6 bucks @ a Goodwill. Just investigating if it is fully functional. Seems to R/W cd's just fine. Googled the error message and found out it may be an easy adjustment in device manager.Thing is still in new condition (w/original protection and packing, so it's definitely worth a shot and have checked out this drive and it's not a bad drive.) Will be great to have around if it is fully working. Question: Have this hooked up to front usb's. Would this device show up in the ata/atapi drop down menu under secondary ide's?

Carefully went in and checked out all drive and usb device management. Looks like it's going to be in the usb controller drop down menu? Don't want to muck things up. (New to computing, and learned to move with caution after an uninformed decision to overclock.) Having said that...I finally am getting to that initial point where things are starting to make lineal sense and the "brick wall" is showing signs of cracking.(Thank God!!)
