Hi. I have tried looking for my similar help topic, but was unable to find anything similar, so I'm sorry in advance if this is a double post.

I am having trouble opening Internet Explorer, My Computer, when they are clicked on, nothing happens, nothing appears, or even when I click something in start menu, the start menu freezes. Other software programs seem to work ( itunes etc) but are running very slow. When I boot into safe mode, my computer opens, IE opens, and everything is fine, so i think it may have something to do with booting into normal windows. I have tried system restore, has not fixed anything. I have run ad aware, did not pick anything up.

I am using an IBM thinkpad R51 with windows xp home

thanks for your help

Have you done virus scans? If yes what did you use? if you used norton/mcafee then i suggest re-scanning with avast and/or trend micro housecall

www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_frame.asp

also, have you looked at your process list to see if anything thing is acting abnormally (high cpu/memory usage)?

try googling a few of the processes that you dont recognize to see if they are suspicious, or post the list here and let the techies look over them.

Just a random thought before i go to bed but.... it could be a registry problem, i.e the shortcuts arent linked to the right things, i dunno, its 1.15 am and im really tired.
