Hi all .

Ive just been on a forum that uses the same vbulletin as pc mech . it was about old streets and what buildings were once used for in my home town.. fascinating stuff . Anyway , they have a shoutbox on the home page at the top . Ive seen this before and thought it,d be quite good on here .

What do you think ???

I brought it up in the staff forum a while ago, and the general consensus was that it would be just another thing that needs to be moderated, and not very efficient because someone can post a topic in a thread on the boards, go to work/school/ etc. and come back later to see the answer. Shoutboxes are only good for general discussions.

I disagree Ryan . the ones i have seen are only used really to say hello and things like that . not to have a rant and a rave , and ask questions that should go in a post. I think the people allowed on this forum are generally well mannered and know what is expected of them whilst using the boards, so i dont think it would be abused . Id like to see the mods trial it and if it does get abused then by all means remove it .

There's the IRC channel if you want to check that out. The shoutbox would probably be plagued with spam posting bots, also.

I agree with rspassey here, there isn't really a need for a shoutbox, if you do want the quick general type chat, like he said, there is always IRC. :)
