Hi. I live in the USVI and I was thinking about getting a wireless connection. I spoke to a guy at my ISP and he told me that it is 100MBit/s. He also told me that the antenna will go on my roof and it will be connected to some kind of radio box and the radio box will be connected to a network card in my computer.

I also had some experience with a Wireless connection when I used to work at a computer repair shop and it used to download at 500K+. Tell me what you guys think.

BTW. It will cost 100$ per month http://www.pcmech.com/ubb/eek.gif
Do you think its worth it ?

Depends on just how reliable it is. We have an ISP where I live that is using a similar setup except it is using a proprietary card instead of an ethernet card to connect to the receiver/antennae. The only problem that I have heard so far is it needed a direct line of sight to the transmitter located downtown. You couldn't have trees or anything in the way. It seemed to work in all weather except extreme conditions such as snowstorms. General snowfall or rain didn't seem to affect it at all until things got the extreme levels of the storm. It's about $50/month here, but there is a $300.00 setup fee.

Is that Look? Where i live you can get Look wireless internet which is a direct line of sight Microwave transmitter, for downloads and you need a regular phone line for uploading.

Before you can get it, a technician comes out to your house and tests the signal strength. We wanted to get their Digital Tv, but the tech, said that there wasnt engough of a signal because of 1 tree in the neibours yard.

Not sure if it is Look or not. A local ISP is supplying the service, they might be getting the setup from them, but yup, same setup proceedure.

I think that it should work by me because the technician told me that if a Cell phone works by my house it should work and I am located at about a mile from the distribution microwave antenna

If it is the same setup we have here, at 1 mile you should get great reception. Around here, they said it would work at a 10 mile radius, but they have set one up as far as 25 miles that worked, although weather did affect it more.
