I was reading up on Windows Vista and I see that it supports up to 128GB of memory. I'm just wondering why it supports so much and if anyone could use that much memory. I can't imagine anyone who needs 128GB of memory in one system.

Not sure, I know it’s hard to fathom needing that much, but the same thing was once said about terabyte hard drives, now they are right around the corner and I know I could use one.

Servers have humungous memory usages, I think.

Keep in mind that there are going to be further releases based on the Vista architecture that will be geared towards more server and business applications. 128GB is rumored to be just a software limit and MS will expand it in future as well: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvista_editions_final.asp (scroll down further on the page)
For my experience, I find Vista manages memory way better than XP. The kernel is also got a ton of advances that are really good! If you want a real basic comparison .. most people got rid of the "new" XP UI within a few hours of using it, because it was sluggish and cumbersome as compared with the "Classic Windows UI"... I'm running a system that is rather old by today's standards (P4 2.8Ghz HT with an AGP video card that is DirectX 9) .. and yet I find Aqua really slick and above all UTILITARIAN!

Alright. Thanks for clearing that up for me. Using it for servers makes much more sense than using it for just a PC.

Statica....
Have you noticed the Creeping memory usage syndrome yet.....I've only been able to slow it down but have yet to stop it....
I have 2x1gig of ram installed...when I reboot I hit 20% uasage...just leaving it sit over night I come back the next day to 45% usage...
Screen Saver seems to aggrevate it but isnt the cause...

Not with the RTM version, the last version I noticed it was probably an earlier build. Am using a slightly different configuration of 4x512 (not that it should matter). What are you using for background processes .. is your system still indexing the drives? I dont see such huge jumps in usage when leaving the system on with nothing running. However, leaving something like Outlook 2k7 running with 6 IMAP accounts polled regularly does show some increase when I return... think it has more to do with Outlook than Vista.

I have version 6.6000 (RTM) and I have it as installed...
I disabled Defender and UAP and have Phishing filter off Screen saver is also off...
with screen saver on and UAP it seems to be worse...When I open a app I see the memory usage go up but sometimes when I close it out it doesnt go all the way back down from where it started...?
I am still running on all the default processes...I'll try disabling drive indexing and see what happens...;)

What do you use to monitor your memory usage?
