Trouble Downloading Win XP Update

After neglecting to have my wife's Win XP system updated for a LONG TIME (If ever), I had problems downloading the update. During the process of downloading service pack 2, the installation was stopped with an "access denied" error message. Then Win XP had its "Service Pack 2 Uninstaller" automatically uninstall the update. I tried this two times with the same result each time. The PC is a Dell Dimension 2400. Anyone have any ideas how I can get the update to take?

Go get the full install package instead of using Windows Update or the express installer.

Apparantely, it is a moderate-ranging problem with many systems. It has to do with access permissions so to start, make sure that you have administrative privelages on your system when installing the update.
