server help

ok so i'm new to the whole world of servers and want to try my hand at making one mainly i want it to be a dedicated gaming server and i was wondering if anyone could list the specs of an average or descent gaming server thanks :)

No different than a mid end standard computer with extra ram and a fast hard drive. Video card is not important.
