Upgrading to vista question.

Hello Everyone. Quick question, I am currently running Win XP Pro. Would it be in my best interest to either upgrade to Win Vista Business or Ultimate or switch down to Home Premium? I did use a lot of win xp pros networking capabilities that home didn't have.

Well upgrading to Windows Vista is certainly a personal decision at this point. I personally would tell you to make the jump to Windows Vista if you are ready to deal with a little bit of pain. I am currently running Vista x64 Ultimate and I have been having a great time playing and learning it, there are however issues, especially when you are talking about Vista x64. The reason you will have trouble is because there largely is not support for x64 operating systems in general, this includes XP x64 and Vista x64.

Now tonight I plan on installing a RTM version of Vista x86, and from what I have been reading I will have much better luck with compatibility, but right now there is no telling. I will post again once I have a good running version of Vista x86 installed, but for right now if you really want to try the new stuff I would certainly recommend Vista x86, and going w/ the Premium version or better

Well my question than would be, is there really a difference between Win XP pro and Vista Home Premium. It doesn't seem that there is. As of right now I finally installed the Vista bete I had downloaded and it displays itself at Vista Ultimate. Right now, with xp I set up lot of lans between computers with mine to transfer files and what not. Does Premium do that?

I guess the only downfall to me switching to Vista Home premium would be that I need to do a fresh install. With Business I don't. One question than and it goes back to my original networking question. I am not sure what it is called in the sku but what I do quite a bit is hook my patch cable into my computer and into a friends computer and transfer files. With XP home I wasn't able to do thatl. Will it work with Vista Home Premium.

You can do that with XP Home, you just have to configure it. I think all versions of Vista will allow peer to peer networking of some sort.

So what is the feeling thus far on Vista. I am considering purchasing a copy of Vsta Home Premium instead of Ultimate. I am concerned about compatibility and if it is worth abandoning XP Pro now or in a few months.

If the machine is mission critical and you have concerns - don't upgrade...

If you wanna wait, wait till SP1 is released in July'ish...
