So I recently bought Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 w/SP2B - OEM with a free upgrade to vista home premium. So I downloaded the form and it asks for a order conformation number, which was supposed to be submited to me when I ordered online. I don't know where this number is supposed to be. Going back to my invoice I see a tracking number and a item number, is it one of those? Has anyone bought this OS with the free vista upgrade?
Here is the link to the purchase

Here is the redemption link

Read step 3 of the PDF:
3. Submit your order and credit card payment online through the site listed in Online Ordering section. Redeeming this offer requires Internet access. Internet service charges may apply. Upon submission, you will receive an order confirmation number.
read on the right:
ONLINE ORDERING Internet: Submit order via http://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista and follow the online instructions.
Essentially its a 2 part process, the first part you do online with the serialized upgrade coupon that you have (PDF). Enter the details from the PDF onto the website and you should get a confirmation number. Write that to the PDF and mail it in with all applicable receipts!
Cant stress enough that the directions must be followed .. it's like any rebate coupon and is subject to following directions.

Thanks for the help. I guess I should bother reading everything next time . I'm going to give it a try and see what happens.

I bought the Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP2b w/Upgrade Coupon for Vista - OEM on newegg.com.

Looking at the Upgrade Redemption Form similar to the PDF copy Statica references in his post I read that the upgrade is "For Distribution Only with a qualifying new PC preloaded with Windows XP MCE from an Authorized System Builder" There was no mention of this on Newegg.com. Many of the newegg.com product reviewers said the coupon works and they either didn't own a PC preloaded with XP MCE or they don't mention their system. However, the upgrade coupon request a purchase receipt for a PC preloaded with Windows XP MCE showing a purchase date between Oct 26th 2006 and March 15 2007. The only receipt I have is for the XP MCE OS OEM from newegg.com. Will that work in place of the Vista PC receipt?
Newegg.com customers don't buy manufactured Media Center PC's so I'm assuming the upgrade coupon works. I'm asking in these forums because they are listed on newegg's help page and newegg is often mentioned by the PC Mech Supporters and Moderators. Man this is frustrating. If I had the money I'd just buy both retail. Thanks.

Thanks. I'm still learning the post reply/new thread etiquette. Other threads of mine have been responded to quickly so I'm curious if this is a subject no one wants to touch or that they aren't seeing it as a new post here and therefore it will take considerable longer to get replies? I'm normally patient, but there are time constraints on returning this product to newegg and to requesting the upgrade if thats how this plays out. I appreciate the help.

Have you tried contacting newegg support (either at the site or here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=150351)

I bought the Media Center XP (2005) OS from newegg just days ago. I plan to use it on a new system build. We'll both have until March 31st to decide if we want to upgrade. Remember, we have to do a 2-part process requiring receipts with date of purchase information.
I don't think this will be any more difficult than a regular Windows install. Heh.
You, bgi02, are an Authorized System Builder, if you give yourself permission. Just pop that disc in, and go, mechanic!
I'm just worried, what if I upgrade to Vista and then decide I want to go back?

Thats a good question. I'm only running a 1.26GHz cpu and if Vista slows down my applications I may need to uninstall it.
I did contact newegg customer svc this afternoon and they assured me that they their invoice works in place of a receipt for a new pc preloaded with XP MCE. I will be sending off my upgrade request ASAP. I'll post back when I receive it.

I ended up going through the motions and sent in the paperwork. They end up making you pay for shipping which cost $12.00 which doesnt bother me considering I'm getting vista. Lest see how long it takes to get the upgrade.
