something's wrong again :(

this is what i have.

i tried the out of the box installation, saw a screen pop up, so i turned it off then start putting it in the box.

once i had everything installed i tried to turn it on again and now there's nothing on the screen

after an hour of staring at it and turning the power on once in a while, i tried the out of box again and this time there was nothing.

did i break something installing it into the box?

edit: i also remember the sb_pwr light being on before, now its not on

Get your motherboard manual and check to see which holes are for mounting screws. Then match up the holes in the mobo to the mounting stand-offs in the case. If the number and placement of holes on the mobo match the number and placement of standoffs in the case are the same then we look elsewhere. If they don't match due to extras, then possible shorted PSU and/or motherboard.

they all match the holes on the tray, but i didnt use all of them because for the ones near the cpu the screws couldnt reach the tray.

For the ones that don't reach you use the brass standoffs'.

Uhm, there are no mounting holes near the CPU. The 4 holes around the CPU socket are for the heatsink lock down pins to go into.

Not the best picture but standoffs are the gold looking items/hex shaped with a threaded stud on one end and threaded hole on the other.

ok i got it. yes there are standoff's

i took them off when i put the mobo on the tray, i tot i was suppose to :/

i did the out of box without the tray, did i fry the board when i put it on without the standoffs?

by near the cpu, i didnt mean the 4 around the cpu just the ones close to it

The motherboard is suppose to sit on the standoffs to electrically isolate the board except the mounting holes from the case. Since you took them oof and then mounted the mobo, you more than likely need a new motherboard and PSU.

i tot brass conducts electricity, if so shouldnt i also have a washer under the mobo?

The stand-offs provide a ground for the motherboard(when used ONLY with the matching mounting holes on the motherboard) to the rest of the system.

Did you try the out of case assembly again? This will tell you if your motherboard is fried or not. If the motherboard POSTs with an image on the monitor then it's still okay.

Also, the motherboard is grounded through the main power connection (through the black wires), not the standoffs. Standoffs are usually made of brass but they're also made of nylon or plastic (which don't conduct electricity) and their main purpose is to raise the motherboard off the motherboard tray high enough so that the underside of the motherboard doesn't touch the mounting tray and cause a short.

will i run into problems if i cheap out and just plug both comps into one surge protected extension?

No. A single computer w/monitor underload will probably draw around 3 amps and most surge strips are rated at 15amps.

Hmm, so I guess it's toast....

Terrible thing to happen on a first build. When I did mine I was completely ignorant about motherboard stands. My saving grace was I just happend to have bought an issue of PC Gamer that had a pictorial tutorial for each step of the process. It was a great help.
