I replaced my original cd rom drive with the one from my other computer. It worked the first day then stopped working. I get an error "Please insert a disk into drive d:". This is the same error that made me replace the original drive. I checked the drivers and they are up to date. I don't know where to go from here........

Did you change the IDE cable as well or just the drive?
Try changing the IDE cable.

Uninstall the drive from device manager and reboot.

Well, I uninstalled it and restarted. Windows downloaded the necessary software and everything seems good but I am still getting the same error.

You are going to have to try the drive in a different computer - or try yet another drive.

This is the replacement drive and the one I replaced had the same errors. This drive worked fine in my other computer and now I can hear it trying to spin the cd but it sounds like stutters.:(

Is it possible that the the power supply might be somehow connected to ruining my cd rom drives because I reistalled the drive in my other computer and it is still not working.

It's possible - what brand and model is the PSU?

It's a Dell optiplex GX270

Those have very low power power supplies - but they should be fairly reliable. If you added a video card, it could be straining it.

I haven't added any new components recently. I have no idea what would damage two drives.

This morning after I shut down my computer the cd rom drive worked fine but after ahile of being on it stopped working again. So then I shut down again and restarted and the drive worked fine again until a little bit later. Why would it do this?
