I just ordered the for my older system. I want to use the tuner software and a dvd rw to record shows onto dvd. I'm looking for DVD/CD read write combo to work with NVIDIA DUALTV MCE tv tuner card and XP MCE, that is quiet(most important), and fast(if possible). If it can write on dual layer dvd'sthats a plus. Looking to spend $50 to $75. It seems Lite-On is recommended in these forums. This Samsung received good reviews by Neweggers.

Mobo has two EIDE connectors and I will have two hard drives, the dvd/cd combo, and either a cd rw or a cdrom(this is what I have now), and of course a 3.5 floppy drive.
I'm also looking for a good EIDE hard drive that is quiet at 7500 to 100000RPM and 250 GB. Looking to spend $50 to $75 here too. This Seagate looks ok but is only 160GB.

Hard drive: Seagate 7200.10.
DVD burner: Lite-On, retail box.

DVD burner: Lite-On, retail box.

Are you suggesting the retail box because it includes a good burning software?

Yes, the OEM has zero software. It's only about 2 bucks more for the retail box and I think you even get a IDE cable and a bag of screws too - and I've even seen a blank DVD tossed in.

My link?

Sonys are rebadged Lite-Ons with lousy software, proprietary firmware, and usually a higher price tag.

I see retail Lite-Ons at Newegg in the $30's.
