Hi there. I have recently been made redundant and thought it might be an ideal time to build my own system. I have a budget of about £250. Luckily for me, my family purchased a few components as Christmas presents and the money can go on a better motherboard and CPU An that is where I am stuck. I don't intend to play games, just some interneting, some photo editing and transferring my vinyl collection to CD and general stuff. I would like some advice on a motherboard and CPU that would be powerful enough and futureproof. I intend to use Microsoft Vista as my OS. Any advice welcome.

Are the only components you need a CPU and motherboard? What do you already have? (Ram, PSU, harddrive, case, video card??)
And does the 250 pound budget include Vista?

Thanks for replying LeftyAce. No, I have a few components to get, but I thought that the motherboard and CPU would be the most important. I still have to purchase a power supply, memory, a floppy drive and DVD RW drive, quite a lot eh!.I already have a case,DVD ROM and Hard Drive. My budget does not include Vista. Thanks for you help. As you can see I am a complete novice at this game!

Tanis, I'm confused as to what components you already have. In your first post, you say that your family purchased you some components, yet in your second, you say you need to buy basically everything! Please clarify this one for me.
£250 is not a sufficient budget to build a complete computer. It's MUCH better to save up until you can buy all the components you need at once.

And the size of the case will determine if you have to use uATX motherboards or Standard sized ATX motherboards.
Please list all components you have in your possession (brand and model), and your budget for completing the system.
