I'm trying to replace the motherboard in an emachines. WHen I took the old one out it was sitting on these little anthill -like humps instead of the standoffs and other stuff I've seen described. THere were no washers of any sort on either the top or the underneath of the motherboard. It sits at exactly the right level to fit the I/O plate at the rear. SHould I mount the new board the same? I've read all these horror stories about mounting boards directly in the case. How come this worked all this time?(until the PS blew) Since it's kinda hard to describe I took a picture of the mounds inside the case.

From the picture those look like they have a different coating then the rest of the case. I'd guess they arn't conductive and are like built-in stand-offs.

Those "humps" are fine for mounting the mobo. I've done several board repalcements in eMachines and haven't had a problem installing a new mATX mobo directly to those.
