Please can anyone advise with a very simple question, namely can a PCMCIA Wireless-G adapter which I have be safely hot plugged on my laptop computer (ie inserted or removed whilst the machine is up and running) ? The manual for the card does not mention whether this can be done or is advisable. The laptop manual just mentions that 'some PCMCIA cards can be hot plugged' and advises not to hot-plug when in Standby mode. I don't know if this particular card can be hot-plugged or not. What is generally advisable with PCMCIA cards as regards hot-plugging ?

Many thanks for any advice.

You can insert the card with the pc running without any problem but removing is a different story. Use the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon near the clock to disconnect the card first. It will tell you that it is now safe to remove the card.

Thanks for reply. I am running XP Home SP2, and in the Safely Remove Hardware utility it only mentions some USB mass storage devices, but the Wireless-G card is not listed, even though it is installed and properly working.
