Hiya to everyone in here. I usually hang out in the Build Your Own section, but I digress. To the point:

I own a Dell Insipron E1705, approximately 8 months old. Its a quite a powerful machine, running a Core Duo, 2GB RAM, an Nvidia GeForce Go 7900 GS and 17" screen. Well...my temperatures are INSANE!! I run it as a desktop replacement atm--new comp in the works--and to be honest I'm really baffled by the temps! The screen is turned off and it runs of AC power--it lives of standard PC peripherals. I installed SpeedFan a while ago, and it doesn't seem to do much.

Current Temps (in celcius):

HD: 31, Temp1: 30C, DIMM: 55 , Temp4: 40, CPU: 30, GPU 45.

While most of these temps are respectable, the laptop has been powered on doing nothing for about 20-30 minutes. The real concern is after about 15 minutes of gaming (WoW..nothing over intense) the DIMM temp will sky rocket to over 70!! The lowest I can get it is around 65. The GPU increases as well--obviously--but I can feel so much heat radiating from the keys its a bit disturbing. I attempted to adjust the fan speeds in BIOS, but I cannot seem to do much with Dell's BIOS. Any help would be great. Thanks so much, and sorry for the long post. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread as well

Those temps actually look about right. Your cpu and gpu are actually running pretty cool. Nothing to worry about. Were they running cooler than that at some point? Most desktop cpus and gpus run at about those temps. For a laptop to be running at those temps I would say you are sitting pretty. Laptops traditionally run hotter than desktops.

Set it on a cooling pad of some sort if you are using it like that. You need airflow under the unit.
