computer: Dell C840 notebook/p4-m 1.8/256 ram/win 2000/30gb hdd

issue: video resolution settings will not hold

discussion: Get force 32 mb video card--- resolution set to 1600X1200--comput boots opk-screen looks fine--if i then adjust resolution to lower setting (ie 1084X800) screen recorrects andf display is fine UNTIL i reboot--THEN i get 2" black broders around each side of visible screen...i then manually reset resolution (without rebooting) and display is correct at the lower resolution setting????!!!!

is this an adjustment of the NCIDA card settings (which one-s) or a defective video card?

computer wants to display at the 1600X1200 setting only-unless i manually reset display each time i reboot computer!

thanx :)

If this is the same laptop with the ram socket problem, could be corrupt video drivers/not selecting "apply" when changing resolutions/video portion of the motherboard is also bad.
Best option is return it and get your money back. It sounds to be a real lemon.

You bought a used laptop - there is always a reason why someone sells a laptop - quite often, it IS because it's a lemon.
