Ok, I have to confess that I've been unable to understand this. If I have an AMD 64 processor, would I be better off buying the 64 bit version of vista or will it be incompatible with most of my 32 bit software?

The short answer-> Get the 32bit OS since there is no compelling reason to get the 64bit OS.

Just about all modern CPUs are 64 bit capable but software has not caught up to the hardware in terms of support for drivers and apps for 64 bit OS's.

and it wil lprobably be a year or so before anyone should even consider the 64 bit OS

But does that mean that I'll eventually have to switch to a 64 bit OS? Why all the fuss with 64 bit processors then?
