Hello,

I am about to roll out Vista Business on my System as a clean install.
I dont want to upgrade any hardware now as it was all done about 6 months ago. But by the Summer i will want a new AMD mainboard, the new FX chip and probably a new Nvidia card as well to cope with things like Bio-Shock.

My question is, how would one best go about upgrading the mainboard etc on a system already fully installed running Vista and what is likely to happen?

Would it be better to do the full upgrade now befor i put Vista on bearing in mind i've got a fast system now?

Also i have a lot of USB hardware, like Trackpoint head trackers, Fingerprint Scanners, Logitech G25 to name a few. Are all of these going to be OK in Vista?

Thanks, in advance.

if you have an oem version of vista, it can only be installed with one mainboard and thats it for that copy. If you have a retail version then i think all you have to do is repair vista once you put in your new motherboard.

make you there are vista drivers for your video card

I will be using the compnay's MSDN account, we have 100 keys available for Vista Business.

This is apparently no longer true.

With XP you could just replace the mainboard, reboot, and hope that it didnt BSOD, if it didnt then it woud need reactivating only.

Whats the procedure with Vista? I won't be using the retail version, it's whatever is on MSDN. We have a VLK for use on site and then up to 100 individual keys for staff use at home. I have two or three of them.
I was hoping to install Vista, then upgrade the H/W later in the year. I expected Vista to need reactivating but my bigger concern was how it would cope with the new Hardware once it was restarted. Is it likely to crash?

I haven't heard anything that would indicate it's any different than XP - which at worst requires a repair reinstall. I may be totally wrong here - just taking an educated guess.
