what happened here?

my dell c600 notebbok with winxp-home will not boot into windows--it goes to the screen offering options such as "boot to last good configuration" etc......was working fine until to ite..

what is the problem? i did nothing (ie added no new software/programs/hardware etc)

I see this a lot with Dell laptops. This is normaly due to a failing hard drive.
You might want to go ahead and pull the hard drive and attach it to another machine with USB if you have the proper kit and recover all your important data.
If you keep trying to boot it you may have full failure and lose everything on the HD.

I would first boot it to a hard drive diagnostic utility and test the drive before pulling it. If you have the Dell resource CD, it's bootable and has all kinds of diagnostics.
