Why are nearly all larger monitors widescreen? I'd love to get a larger 20" - 22" monitor for gaming, but finding a decent one that isn't widescreen is so hard. It's 'ok' for TVs. I don't particularly like it there either, but I absolutely hate it in a computer monitor. Even with the latest drivers and the screen size supposedly set right any pictures or standard def video (who watches anything else over the net?!) comes up stretched out and looks awful. And don't even get me started on trying to do a spreadsheet on one of these things. So I ask you, who in the world thought it would be good idea to make these the standard?

Games that support widescreen resolutions give you an exceptional viewing area compared to normal full screen monitors. Not only giving most a better gaming experiance, but a upper hand since they can see more of the space on the left and right sides.

Just my opinion..

Cost. Big widescreens are a lot cheaper to manufacture than big standard screens.

I guess that makes sense, really sucks though. Some games may be ok, but there really is a lot of content that gets messed up on widescreens.

It all depends. We see in widescreen, so it actually is a more natural way of looking at it. Thats how I find it anyways.

I think your getting angry with the wrong people here. Instead of being mad at the folks that produce the monitors... you should be made at the lack of widescreen support in some of today's most popular games. BF2 is the one that sticks out in my mind and the latest one being RAINBOW SIX VEGAS which not only is a poorly ported version of the 360 game but in it's transition from the 360 to the PC it lost it's widescreen support. I don't use widescreen, or even LCD for that matter. I'm waiting for the gaming industry to catch up with the rest of the world by giving us the widescreen support that WE, the gamers, rightfully deserve. =)

I can go with that. I guess it doesn't matter which side of the fence they make the fix on, as long as someone does. I did warn that it was a bit of a rant. Sometimes you've just got to get this stuff out around people that if not agree with the view, at least understand it and might have have a constructive reply.
