codec problem!!!!

I couldn't play dvds using windows media player.So I download a codec pack form majorgeeks.com .It worked great for 5 minutes then the trail software expired.Now I'm having trouble removing the codec .I tried to go through device manger>sound ,video,game controllers>video codec's. I remove them ,I close the device manger ,and open it again and their back.Does anyone know how to get rid of them or just disable them .is there a different codec that I can download that will work .I just want to be able to watch DVD's without a five minute limit.

Can you link to the file you downloaded? I get no such limit on mine and I cant locate a trial version on thewebsite.

It don't say anything about being a trail till you use it for five minutes. Its just annoying that I cant remove them

What version of windows media player are you using? I think if you just upgrade to the latest version you'll fix the DVD codec problem?

I dont know why the software is crippled after five minutes. It is listed as freeware and has worked for me without problems for a quite a while now. Where there any options or choice sot make for the paid version when you installed? I dont recall the install routine but maybe there was a choice in there somewhere.

In addition to the Codecs did you also get the Real and Quicktime alternatives with it?
If you did they have to be uninstalled in Add/Rmove first.
If you used Device Manager you have to restart the computer for the changes to take effect, just opening and closing Device Manager won't do it.
We don't know which mirror you used but K-Lite is freeware as sgtspector so I'm wondering what it is you've got.
Did you ever attempt to reinstall your original copy of Power DVD?

It's very possible the Full is crippled because some of the codecs in there are not freeware, they are pirated. This is why we push retail boxed DVD drives and burners, they come with DVD player software (PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc.) that includes legal codecs - you don't have to USE the DVD software, you just have to INSTALL it to install the codecs - THEN WMP can play the DVD's.

Instead of using MajorGeeks to get codecs, you should use free-codecs.com.

Im using windows media player 11. I tried rolling back to 10, then reinstall 11.That didn't work .I didn't have no choice to get the pay version or not .I didn't get any real or quick time player codec with k-lites pack ,as far as I know .After removing all the video codecs I did restart the computer and they are still there .I used the first mirror from TX.The message I keep getting is "The Trial Version Inter Video mpeg decoder has reached the 5 minute playback limit".I'm assuming that this is K-lites because ,before I installed k-lites codec pack I couldn't play dvds at all ,now I can for five minutes.All I want to do is to remove the Inter video mpeg decoder and use something that doesn't have a 5 minute limit.

I did have power DVD on the computer .I came with the computer when I bought it .I lost it after a system recovery .I still have the Cd key and S/N for power DVD on a sticker on the back of the computer .Is there a way I could download power DVD and punch in the cd key and S/N or will I have to buy power DVD again .

Inter Video is WinDVD and no it's not freeware, that explains the 5 minute trial.
If you won't take glc's suggestion then go here : http://www.cliprex.com/

You're faced with doing a reformat ( When codec packs go wrong they can be impossible to remove otherwise.)
I would just bite the bullet and get it over with.

I removed windvd ,and WMP is doing great now .all I had to do was find out where that Inter Video decoder was hiding .I never thought windvd could cause a conflict like that !

I have never been able to play a DVD on Media players no matter what i updated always used Power DVD or ASUS DVD. Windows media player is the worst thing i have ever experienced when it comes to DVD, music i always install a 3rd party to avoid the night mare
