New iPod anytime soon?

I'm thinking about getting an iPod but don't want to buy one only to have a newer version come out in a few months for the same price. Has anyone heard anything about a new iPod in the near future?

Apple announced the future launch of iPhone earlier this year. The device is an integrated iPod-Phone-PDA - quite versatile. While there was speculation that this was the "next generation" iPod, it became much more unlikely with the release of the price - something along the lines of 500 USD with service contract agreement.

That said, unless you have that sort of money to spend, I suggest you pull the trigger on an iPod for when you need it. Apple has been updating iPods on a 1.5~2 year cycle and it doesn't seem to be slowing down.

Who knows? Keep waiting and you will never have one. If you find older versions at a blowout price that have the features you want, go for that. Buy what you need when you need it, just look for the best deal.

Well, the 5G video is obsolete. I just bought the 5.5G 30GB Video Ipod. Just like the 2g Nano. As of now they are the newest ones and came out last fall. I did the same thing when I was about to get my 5.5G Video, Apple has announce nothing. Just do it now.

That's the thing with high tech products that are constantly and rapidly improving. Since the advances are usually constant there is no "best" time to really buy. One point is as good as another.

Ergo, buy now. You'll just drive yourself crazy trying to avoid regret.

I still have my iPod mini that I bought a little after they came out. Still works just fine for how I use it. The 'rumor' is there will be a new video iPod released with the Mac Pro updates sometime in the next month or so. I wouldn't take that as a given though. There was supposed to be an event for that the 20th of this month and it didn't happen.

Normally, I wouldn't be so worried about something like this, but when I got my iPod photo, the video one came out a couple of weeks later. The only reason I'm thinking about buying an iPod is because my photo's LCD is broken. I think I'll get an iPod or something like it soon. Thanks for the advice.
