Hello all.
I just bought all my hardware today and have started building, but i think my cpu socket on my mobo is busted, this is my fist time installing a cpu btw.

is the socket suposed to be bent like that? because i purchased it like that, and i didn't want to apply to much pressure and break my cpu, so i figured i would make absolutly sure with you guys first.
Thanks in advance.

Who sold you that motherboard? Yep, that looks pretty bent to me. Be sure the processor is installed with the gold triangles matching. Did you try to install it once before this?
I bought it from Canada Computers.
The triagles match.
Never tried installing anything in this board, i dropped the cpu into the socket and noticed the hinged cover part was bent and the plastic part was sagging.
Can anyone confirm that the socket is broken?
Need to know asap so i can take it back to the shop and get a new one, and smack them for selling me a broken motherboard.

Looking at it from the picture, that chasis for the processor is not straight as it should be. You could try reseating the processor, but I'd just take it back and have them examine it.

Return it, and tell them to stop laying on the motherboard boxes in the warehouse during breaks. ;)

You should get a replacement. :)

Welp, I made a mistake, I installed my processor on my P5W DH Deluxe and it looked a little like that. It works, but puts a lot more stress than required on the pins...I suspect.
Update:
I took the mobo back to the shop, the guy said it looked liked it was used, so they let me get another one, but i got the p5b-e instead.
I looked at the new socket and one from a third board laying around that was socket 775.
They all looked the same, the tech guy said you just need to put quite a bit of pressure on the lever to close it.
So I got it home, and it installed fine, it's detected in my bios and all seems good.
The system seems to be running fine at this point, I just havn't formatted the HD or installed windows yet. I still need to get myself an OEM copy.
The only thing perplexing me at this point is an error message I'm getting, it says..
"Intel CPU uCode loading error"
"press F1 to resume"
So I hit F1 and it takes me to the BIOS.
Is that error messsage somthing i should be worried about?

That message means the BIOS is having trouble recognizing your CPU. What BIOS revision does that board show when you enter it? The Asus website says your board requires version 0211 for the C2D, though I would expect it to have that already.
When you boot up the system, what does the screen say about the CPU?
Printed on the mobo itself it says the bios version is 1.01g, in the post screen i think it said 402(i know it started with 4), in the bios itself it says v02.58.
I did some searching and alot of people have the same problem, they just flash the bios with the latest version whcich seems to be 1002 and problem solved. The asus website has this message attached to the lates bios file, it says..
Description P5B-E Release BIOS 1002
**Please update AsusUpdate to V7.09.02 or later prior making this update.**
**This BIOS does not support roll back to earlier BIOS**
How do I update AsusUpdate to V7.09.02 ? Is it a driver thing that needs to be done after the OS is installed or can I do it before OS installation?

Asus Update is a tool used to update the bios from within windows. Unfortounately you're going to have to do it the hard way. On the same download page as the bios itself is a bios update utility. Read the instructions that come with it when you download it, but basicly you put it on a CD with the bios. Then you take that and boot with it.
Ok I have the two files.
AFUDOS.exe (Afudos BIOS update tool v2.26)
P5BE1002.ROM (P5B-E Release BIOS 1002)
Now how do I get them onto a bootable CD? I have nero burning ROM 7 but i can't seem to figure it out. The files I downloaded didn't come with any instructions.
EDIT: Would it be easier to install windows first and then run AsusUpdate and then flash the bios?
Because it IS able to boot into the windows install screen even with the error there, other people have managed to get widows installed with the error still there, and flash the bios after.
You need a floppy.

You will need to make the boot floppy in a Win9x machine or get a premade bare bootdisk image from bootdisk.com.
