Thinking about getting a laptop. It will be low usage (mainly when we travel).

They all see to have some variation of Vista loaded and I'm looking to get one with 1G of RAM. Is this enough for Vista.

Been looking at the HP's offered in the big box stores as I have a friend in the buisness who is a Dell reseller and he likes the HP's. Opinions on HP.

Have also seen some Acer's that seem good. Opinions.

Hoping to keep cost around $700.00 or so.

Lastly is there any wireless offerings that will let you use them on a weekly/monthly basis.

Thanks
Chas

You can get a Dell E1501 with Vista and 1gb of ram for $700.

Are you referring to standalone wireless, not wifi hotspot access? Check with your cellular provider to see what plans they offer. Unlimited runs $60 a month but they should also have a pay by the megabyte plan too. This will require a data card or a kit to tether your cellphone to the laptop.

I suggest Toshiba portage series. Over at my place, HP and Toshiba offer the same hardware, but Toshiba is cheaper over HP. I am not sure if it is the same over there.

I am not a fan of HP. I would much rather have a Dell.

I have not been impressed with Toshiba's quality control or customer service recently.
