What type of internet connection do you have and what downstream speed it is supposed to be at?

That's normal speed for that.

ok thanks for the longest time I've had this idea that my dsl speed seemed inferior to others of comparable isp or just other verizon users but thanks for the responses :)
768k service is the entry level cheap DSL. You want faster, pay more. You want even faster, get cable.

The thing you have to remember is that the raw speed of your internet connection is satted in bits per second and when your downloading what you see is bytes per second and of course there are 8 bits in a byte and there is a litle bit of overhead for error control also, so yes assuming you have 768kb downstream than that is a good download speed. That is what I have, (768kb dsl), and thats the highest I ever see a file downloading at also.

I have zoom from Armstrong and I have seen files download at 600kb a second regularly.
I have Cox cable and I download files at 1000 KB/s regularly, but that's not the point. For the connection speed that the OP is paying for, he is getting normal speed.
