Stuttering MP3 when adding new tabs in IE7

Hi all,

I have a small issue with my PC that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on.

When I'm playing MP3 files (I use iTunes 7) and browsing the web (with IE7) I have noticed that sometimes, but not always, when I use the tab feature of IE7 to add new tabs that the track I'm listening to 'stutters' and/or 'lags' (best way I can describe it) a second or two before resuming.

On further investigation when it happens Windows Task Manager shows CPU usage near to or at 100%.

Is this normal and if not, what could be the cause? Should the CPU usage spike that high while only browsing the web and listening to music, since I've noticed under normal use WTM reports on average only around 5% usage while both apps are running.

Hi GLC, thanks for the post (and the ones you posted in my other threads).

Erm, now you mention it I don't recall though I think it was iexplore.exe rather than iTunes.exe. I will check again the next time it happens and confirm.

Got an idea what it could be?

Not sure this is relevant but I have run a virus scan using Panda ActiveScan which comes back okay except for reporting cookies. Clean for virus, malware, spyware, etc.

May need to empty the temp internet files in IE7.

Thanks Flanzig I will give that a try. I'm always trying to learn, how does the cache tie in to all this?

I checked my settings and noticed I had the 'days to keep pages in history' set to 20 days and also that 'disk space to use' was set at 1024MB even though it recommends 50-250MB. Would this have anything to do with it and what happens if you exceed the alloted disk space? I've been doing alot of browsing lately.

When you reach the allotted disk space, the oldest stuff drops out the bottom. You should set IE to empty temporary internet files on close - that's on the Advanced tab.
