Was given an older Gateway w/ ME. Going to get it tuned up and running smoothly and then going to make the decision to keep ME (and go through the search for av and support utilities),install XP and use free av and apps, or run with Ubuntu. The computer came with some nice office apps. and that is the only reason I'm considering keeping ME. Would there be any problems installing Ubuntu on this and would it be just a reformat/install.
System is running: Athlon processor, MSI 6330 Ver.2.1 mobo, 128mb ram, 20gig WD hd, cd/rom and a cd/rw drive, ATI Radeon graphics card 64mb, and a Newton 250w psu. Can't get into the bios using th delete key on startup to check the system out there? What would you guys do?

Bios on a Gateway is usually F1 or F2.

It will run Ubuntu, but upgrading the ram will help. You can use the CD as a live CD to try it out without installing it on the hard drive. It comes with free applications to do just about everything you would need, Open Office being one of them.

Just happen to have one. Leaning towards the Ubuntu install as I already have checked it out and you sure can't ask for much more concerning security and ease of use for the basics. Thanks,Truly appreciate the help glc.
