Linux Distro for Vmware Player??

Hey guys, I'm going to install the Vmware Player on my computer so I can try out a few linux distros. I've got Window XP Home Edition SP2 with only 512mb of RAM. Could you guys suggest a good Linux distro that won't take up all the RAM??? I read in one of the Freeware Frenzy articles that Ubuntu with XP uses 625mb of RAM.

I'm totally new to Linux, and Virtual Machines, so if you guys could recommend one that's user friendly and not too heavy on the RAM consumption, that would be great. Thanks a lot guys.

Damn Small Linux is another distro. 50mb in size. find more about this at distrowatch.com

The article said that VMware running both XP, and Ubuntu used 625MB of ram, so instead of running vmware and 2 OS's simultaneously why not try a live cd of linux. Ubuntu, and Knoppix can be run from a CD.

The live cd's are nice. You can often find them (bonus cd's) in magazines if you think that the convenience is worth it. Ubuntu is deserving of all the attention it's getting. So is Mandriva. That Damn Small Linux that Jeofry10100900 told you about runs "live" off a thumb drive (w/the basic apps.) if you do the download. Cool to have that on your key chain!

I would recomend that you get the ubuntu CD burn it and boot it live, it runs exactly how it would installed and it a very nice and easy to use Linux distro
