So I ordererd a PCI wireless adapter along with my recent build. It's an Encore, and it got great reviews by many Newegg customers.

My system wouldn't recognize the thing even after I installed the driver. I even went to the website and downloaded the driver again just in case it had been updated and still no dice.

My PCI-E runs my graphics card just fine, and I even tried two PCI slots for the Encore, neither of which worked. This makes me think it's still a software issue.

Am I missing something? Any tips would be great.

More likely a defective card. It's cheap, you get what you pay for. However, your PCI bus may be dead - does it recognize *any* PCI card?

Yeah yeah. I shopped for a while and people were impressed by this card, so I went for it. Whatever.

I did try it in two (out of three I think) PCI slots. Neither worked. I do know that my PCI-E is working w/ my video card, but I don't have any other PCI components to test with. What is the likely hood of 2 PCI slots being defective on an otherwise fully functional board?

*edit* Oh and woundn't I get some other indication if the part of the motherboard was damaged? Maybe from the MOBO drivers? Monitoring functions.....?

I've seen boards where the legacy PCI slots are dead with no other problems. You are going to have to do one of 2 things - try your card in another computer or try a different PCI card of any type in your computer.

I guess I'll have to test it somehow.

thanks.
