Only allow specific websites?

Hi all,

I need to be able to restrict a single computer running Windows to view only the websites specified by someone, regardless of what browser they're using and whether or not they are an administrator on the computer. I'm hoping for something that doesn't involve 3rd party software but I suppose it is fine. This workstation is on its own workgroup, there is no domain.

I don't really understand?

One of my clients wishes to block all websites (except the ones they specify) on a specific computer so their employee cannot stray off from his work.

It would be difficult to do cross browser. I have setup some machines at work where they can only go to 2 websites. It is a IE only thing since all it does is set Group Policy to have them use a proxy server at IP address 127.0.0.0 for all addresses except for certain ones that are allowed. You could manually add the settings but since they are user specific you would have to set them up for all users. Your best bet would be to go third party with one of the web filtering tools.

Instead of limiting websites to a crossover browsers, maybe have that computer only use one browser and not let any general users to install software on that computer? You could have it set up as a limited administrator not the head administrator. The work computer where I work is set up that way, we're limited to I.E. and not allowed to install any software, it will also block websites that are deemed inappropriate to visit .

Blocking with IE should be simple - put the sites you want to allow in the trusted zone and lock up the other zones - and use group policy to prevent changing the settings.
