Download Managers

Well, my internet is fast enough but very unreliable so I would like to have some program which can remember where a download was before I got disconnected or something. I know they exist but they all seem spyware-y and such like. Can you recommend any free spy and adware-free programs? My friend uses Download Accelerator Plus and seems happy with it but i've heard things such as uninstalling gremlins. Thanks in advance. :)

Opera and Firefox both have decent download managers built in.
