Hello Everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me with this. This is what happened.
I shut down my Computer. The next day I started it up and my user accounts are missing from my welcome screen. I'm running Windows XP w/ SP2.
When my computer boots up it goes to a blue screen with a "square box" asking for my password for my Admin. Account. I type in the password and it boots up to desktop. I went to start - log off but I don't get a switch users screen only the square box asking for admin. password again. I looked in Control Panel into User Accounts and the other 4 accounts are still listed there.
I tried to use System Restore but it says it is unable to complete the task. No changes have been made. I tried to go back to 3 different restore points but it didn't work.
I looked at some of the posting and did not see a similiar problem listed.
And before you ask I did not set up the .net password.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try this:

start -> control panel -> user accounts -> change the way users log on or off

Make sure both "Use the welcome screen" and "Use fast user switching" are checked.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Spools,
Can I say HOLY MOLEY without getting in trouble!

This is what came up when I tried your suggestion.

Recently installed program has disabled Welcome screen ect.
The following file name may help identify program that made change: MrvGINA.dll

WHAT? Where did that come from. I do not look at porn sites, my wife would kill me.
And the first thing I did was run Norton Antivirus when I first noticed the problem.
Any idea where this came from and more important How Do I Get Rid Of It.!!

Hope someone can help me with this
Thanks

MrvGINA.dll seems to be a driver for the Netgear wireless card. I assume you have one installed on your computer. This should help restoring the Logon/Restore Welcome Screen http://www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_...ix_xp_logon.htm. Have a look at this also http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pr...ity/msgina.mspx.

Codered, those links are busted..

Glad you're making progress ReSet.
From what I can see, you can make everything better if you're willing to do some editing in your registry. It's not something I'm terribly comfortable with myself but I have done it a few times (not for this problem however).

If you're up for it:

Start -> run -> type "regedit" and click OK

Then open the edit menu at the top and select Find

type "mrvGINA.dll" in the search box and click Find Next

You'll be looking for the following path:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWSNT/WINLOGON

Delete the mrvGINA.dll data if you find it there.

After a reboot you should either get the account login screen back or be able to set it in the control panel.

Good luck.

Thanks Spools
I went to the registry and tried what you suggested. There was no reference to that .dll in the registry. I do have a netgear wireless router but I was not getting a strong enough signal most likely because of interference, concrete walls.
Since the Netgear was not working I removed it from my computer and removed the software and everything went back to 'normal."
Thanks for your help.
