my laptop battery is insanely frustrating. it's lifespan is approximately 10 mins. fully charged. i got my dell laptop d640 this past august and i normally run it on ac power. most everyone else i know gets about 3 hours out of theirs, so i'm assuming my battery is just crap.
my question is, can i get a non-dell battery? is there such a thing? or would i have to go through dell. also i was wondering if someone here knew if such a thing were under warranty (i have a 3 year warranty), because their customer service is the single most frustrating experience i've ever been through...i can't even get that one freakin' answer out of them!

It probably depends on the kind of warranty, if you ask me. I wouldn't get a battery from anyone else but Dell, but getting a free one out of them will be like pulling teeth.

Don't use the phone. Use the Dell Support Chat system. You'll wait a bit to get connected but they are very helpful.

The battery *should* have a 1 year warranty. Have you checked to see if it's covered under the recall yet?

It's not covered under the recall. I will try the Dell Chat and see if I can get a replacement. Thanks for the advice!
