Help with opening websites from Favorites in IE

Hey there,
I'm back again tonight with another problem. You helped me a couple days ago and I appreciate it very much.
Tonights problem is with my internet browser, IE 6.2900 SP 2.
After much fussing I was able to get online and onto the forum. The problem is I go to my Favorites folder and click on a link and nothing happens. To get onto the PcMech forum I had to google pcmech and then click on the link and that brought up the website. None of my Favorites links work.
Also while I am typing up this message I keep getting what I think would be a pop-up but it is just an empty box and I can x it out.
Any ideas on what is going on with my browser and / or internet connection. I don't know what other info about my system would be helpful so just ask and I will let you know.

Want to add this . I'm also getting a pop up error box that says;
The requested look up key was not found in any active activation context.
What? Any body know what that means?

I did a google search about this and I see that this problem doesn't seem to have a quick or easy solution. The suggestion was given more than once to do a fresh install and that is what I am going to do.

You might want to try just re-installing IE. (Or you could just switch to Firefox! w00t! ) You could write down all the sites on your favorites list and then re-link to them again. Of course if you have tons of favs then this obviously would not be feasible. Best of luck to you.

First things first, rule #1 try the easiest things first. What is it? Well that is deleting your Temporary Internet Files. Now you ask what that has to do with the problem? Maybe nothing but I have seen that fix the most unusual of issues. So now I don't question it, I just do it, and if there is no difference, it's really a no harm no foul step to take. Just try it, then go with the extreme choices. By the way last time I checked you can't really reinstall IE (correct me if I am wrong) but you can upgrade to a newer version if you haven't done so already. Also, you can run a repair (I believe), but never really need to for I have fixed IE problems with my suggestion, changing Java settings, going with default settings, and so on. Personally I think loading another browser is just the quick way out, not a solution.

I agree Iman. Do what is easiest first. I guess to me reinstalling/upgrading IE isn't a huge deal. But to each their own. If you want to reinstall/upgrade IE here is the link for that.

Another note, if you do upgrade, (I don't see why you wouldn't want to) then all your favorites will migrate from IE 6 to IE 7 just fine and you won't have to re-link to all of those sites.

Didn't bother checking the link, just know in the past removing IE/reinstalling it could and has hosed a PC. Is it still that integrated now? Don't know, but some things I do not do, for like you said to each is own.

Your right, sometimes the obvios is the first thind overlooked. I do dump my temp files daily and it seems that IE 7 has some issues also.
