Hi there,
I recently installed Avast antivirus. When it finished installing it asked me if I wanted to perform a boot scan, I said yes. So it scanned away and found 2896 through to 2903 unreadable. I assume these are sectors? I guess I'm wondering what this means, is my HDD on the way out?

Thanks

You can check the HDD by using chkdsk from a command prompt. If you want it to try and fix the errors the command is "chkdsk /r" Hope this helps

If you're really worried about the hdd, download the manufacturer's diagnostics and run them.

but is that what the report means? I have no reason to believe it's failing, but when it says they are unreadable it makes me wonder if a failure is inevitable.

You NEED to run diagnostics on the hard drive - unreadable sectors are NEVER good.
