i just found a program called GCalDaemon (http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/index.html) that is able to sync in both directions between different calendar apps with Google Calendar. I have been looking for something like this for awhile, and didn't see it posted anywhere on here, so i figured i would let you all know about it.
its platform-independent, and i have it working with Sunbird in ubuntu great right now. the guides on their site are decent, but seem to leave out a few important steps (unless i just didn't see them on here). if there is any interest, i would be more than happy to write up a guide of how i got this going
only problem i have noticed is that if i delete an item on Google Cal, it does not delete in Sunbird. any other modifications made on either side are updated almost instantaneously. small issue, but i can deal with it for what i need.
