I'm trying to get XP + Vista going on my drive with dual boot. I got it to work, but then I had problems renaming the drive letters. Basically, I want my setup like this:

Running Vista:
current OS on C:\
XP on X:\

Running XP:
current OS on C:\
Vista on V:\

I'm thinking maybe the problem is that my Vista installation is on a logical drive instead of a second primary partition. When I tried to delete it and create a second primary partition, it has all the options grayed out except for logical. What's going on?

My motivation for changing this is that it seems like a bad idea to have Vista running off anything but C:\ when I'm in the OS... currently it's on D:\ and I can't change it.

You can't rename drive letters on partitions where an OS are installed...The registry is full of "path" lines so that it can find programs and such...

Vista doesn't care what drive letter it's on...When dual booting, the oldest OS needs to be installed first which would usually be the C drive.

As of now, I got it so that my current OS is always running on C:\ and the other one is on D:\ which seems good enough. I did this by installing XP first, then going into an old installation of Vista beta and changing the partition for my retail Vista to primary.

For some reason, when in XP, I have the option to change the drive letter of the Vista partition, but I can't do the same to the XP partition when in Vista.
