I'm looking for a good Cd/Dvd burner (preferably retail) that uses a sata connection. Any help? I look around newegg and a few other sites, but they don't see to have any good quality products.

Newegg has a few Lite-On SATA DVD burners available. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010100005%2050001336%201036506653&name=DVD%20Burner)

I've been using Lite-On burners almost exclusively for the past 5 years with any problems.

I assume you meant without any problems? Mine are great as well. (Not SATA though. A little older than that.)

I concur with the LiteOn recommendation. My usage has been all ide burners but I'd trust their quality over any other brand out there. Plextor was the recognized quality leader but they've recently ceased manufacture of burners.

Ok, thanks. I always thought that Lite-On were pretty much generic burners that were ok. Thanks for the help.

Thankfully, Newegg has a Lite-on SATA Retail burner back in stock!

Ok, thanks. I always thought that Lite-On were pretty much generic burners that were ok.Prior to using Lite-On burners I was using and installing Plextor burners (supposedly one of the best brands) and over a course of about 2 years I personally had 2 die on me and had to replace another 3 Plextors that died in computers I built for friends. I switched to the Lite-On brand in 2001 and haven't had one die on me yet (my own and others I installed in builds I've done)...and I must have installed at least 60 Lite-On burners (CD and DVD) over the past 6 years. I don't plan to switch to another brand anytime soon.

I have narrowed it down to these two burners:

The first one is slightly slower, but it comes with nero. I am just wondering if the second one will come with any kind of software, mainly a dvd decoder.

Look in the pictures. Retail drives should come with everything you need.

When I made my post, Newegg's site was down - I just checked the other one, it's not in the picture but it does come with Nero according to the reviews.
