Linux and Windows Dual Boot

Alright, well I installed Fedora Core 4 (yes I know outdated) well I installed it,and then I had another 8gig partition for Windows (which I'm using right now)

Well when I had Fedora only installed it would continously ask which OS I would want to boot too (at the time I only had Fedora Core 4 installed) it was using GRUB Multiboot (thing) And when I installed Windows it won't go into GRUB to let me choose which operating system to boot up too.

Any help is appreciated

GRUB is the boot manager that you were using to select which operating system the computer was supposed to boot. It's installed in the Master Boot Record(MBR).

How I was always told to install Linux was to:
a)partition the drive (with Linux or some other utility)
b)install Windows on whatever partition you want
c)install Linux on the remaining partitions

The reason for this is that Windows writes over the MBR, so you now have no GRUB to select your operating system.

What you need to do is restore your MBR. Did you make the floppy disk when installing? If I recall correctly they ask if you want to make a boot-disk of some sort.

Niels82 seems to have the right idea. The FC4 cd's are located here (http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/core/4/i386/iso/) if you need them. There is a recovery disk which is quite a bit smaller then the first installation disk, so you may be able to use that to recover GRUB as well.

All you need to do is run a simple linux boot disk and re-install grub onto the MBR of your disk, Windows has simply overwritten what you installed first.

Ubuntu boot CD is commonly used for its ease of use.
