I have Internet Explorer 6 SP1 installed on a Windows 98 SE operating system and it is causing a lot of problems.

I recently read that IE 5.5 SP2 works a lot better with Windows 98. After Downloading 5.5, when I tried to set up I get the message that there is a newer version installed and Set Up cannot continue.

I tried to remove IE 6.2 but the Removal Tool does not permit that.

When I went to Windows Explorer I found a folder Internet Explorer but I don't know if I can just delete all files or what.

Can someone give some tips on how to get rid of 6.2 and install 5.5.
Thanks in advance:(

You should be able to remove IE6 using add/remove programs.

I tried that - add / remove programs - but nothing happened so I don't know what is wrong.

I tried to remove IE 6.2 but the Removal Tool does not permit that. When I go to Add / Remove it only gives the options "add a component" or "Repair" there is no removal option.

I need to get rid of 6.2 so I can install 5.5 and just maybe not have my computer crash 3 times a day

When I went to Windows Explorer I found a folder Internet Explorer but I don't know if I can just delete all files or what.

Can someone give some tips on how to get rid of 6.2 and install 5.5.

Please don't start a new thread on the same problem. Keep it all in one. I merged them together.
