Hi,
I recently built my first computer, and it has been fun. I want to go one step further and build my own laptop. I want a large monitor, long battery life, and a big hdd. Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

You cannot build your own laptop with the same degree of customization as a PC. You can however, buy prebuilts, which you can add your own CPU, hard drive, ram, optical drive. Asus has some of these available. Keep in mind though that the process is difficult and is only worth it if you want a higher end machine. For a limited budget, prebuilt is the best option. These also have much better warranties.

Alienware is somewhat expensive, though.

Since dell acquired Alienware, I believe they merged much of the support services into Alienware's US based centers....get an XPS and save yourself some dough. I know a few people with XPS gaming laptops, and they're fine. Not as fancy-colored as the Alienware, but a good bit cheaper...
