For the handful of Mekkers out there who may have wondered where I've gone....

Well, I am one month into my new internet addiction, Second Life (http://secondlife.com).

When I first got online it was chatrooms that caught my fancy.... Then Half Life took over. Then I discovered PC Mechanic. Then I drifted from y'all and got into Counter Strike and then got into blogging and kind of meandered my way back here, stopping to play FEAR and whatnot....

Then came Second Life. I have been in-world for a month now and folks, and let me tell ya, what a ride!

It's an immersive virtual world where you get your own fully animated and customizable avatar. It is basically a glorified chatroom combined with an intense graphical experience.

You can do ALL sorts of things here. I, myself, prefer human interactions... I mainly make friends and have fun with them in-world. I rent a home, am setting up a treehouse right now with a dear friend from Britain; I have parachuted off a hot air balloon and then gathered with my fellow jumpers on the bottom of the Baltic Sea: I have scuba-dived, roller skated, danced, flown like Superman, teleported around the world, shot and caged a friend, and all kinds of crazy, fun things....

I put up a blurb about it with some pics on my blog here (http://lonelymans.blogspot.com/2007/04/apologia-about-my-lack-of-blogging-no-i.html).

I have given up TV, movies, pc games, my kids and church and invest all my time in Second Life.... Just kidding about kids and church....

So, if you're looking for a new pasttime and wanna have some fun and explore different parts of your personality, check it out! But watch out- it's addicting! Don't say I didn't warn you....

You can find me by doing a People search for Hamlet Ducatillon.

It's actually quite interesting and very inline of integrating life and technology. I came across it a while ago and did a review/article (http://www.pcmech.com/show/kudos/1060/) on it. It's quite impressive what it has come to.

Looks crazy... is there actually a goal in it, or do you have to earn credits etc.??

It's exactly as the name suggests. It's a second life for you, complete with championship 18-hole golf courses, if that's what you crave :)

I deliberately force myself away from potentially addicting things... such as WoW, and now, Second Life.

It does sound cool though :)

Wow, Jaggannath - there's a name (and avatar hehe) that I haven't seen in a while!

Anyways, my cousin has been absorbed into the Second Life world as well. She praises it like the geeks (no offense guys) praise their WoW experiences.

It scares me to even try something like Second Life. I don't want my life to get that absorbed into any one thing because I know my personality is capable of it. The same applies to World of Warcraft.

I really don't mean to offend anyone but the way I see it is that it is probably best to spend the same time improving you're own real world first.

Do you spend real money to get things like homes and stuff or is it like WoW where you only spend real money to get items faster by buying them??

You can spend real money if you choose to do so to get goodies. In fact, the IRS and Congress are considering taxing income from the game since currency earned in the game can be converted to dollars. Some people are making real dollars from the game. I would say if you are making real dollars then you should be taxed because when you convert the currency it becomes real dollars. It though would be silly for the US govt to tax the games currency.

Sounds like if somebody really worked the system, they could use it for money laundering.

Yeah, I would contact support.

I am a premium member though I am not a current landowner, which seems to me to be the main reason to be a premium member....

I thought I was going to buy land then I met this girl from England who owns land and, well.... :D
