Odd audio problem

I reinstalled windows the other day (xp) and I have a sound blaster audigy. At first I thought it was just media player causing this, but I have now found out that any video player does this also. If the movie is being played, and I slide the audio bar down (the one in the player) the volume will go down. But if I pause the movie, or even search through the movie, the volume sound, will go back up to 100%, but the slider stays in the same position. If I click the slider, in the position it is currently in, it will go back down. Now this doesn't do this if I use the play control, through the speaker icon on the tray. I have tried reinstalling the sound drivers numerous times, and almost had windows unusable. I had the wonderful blue screen, windows shuts down to prevent damage to your hardware fun. After a few hours of fun with that, I got it back going. So what should I try? Another fresh install? Hopefully I am making sense in this, if not, I shall answer any questions. Thanks.

When you reinstall the sound drivers, do you uninstall them first? Best way to do it is to use Driver Cleaner Pro. Read the instructions on how to totally wipe your computer of any Audigy-related driver files, then do so, then try to reinstall the drivers.

And does your MOBO sport onboard audio, as well? If so, it's best to disable it in the device manager. On some systems, if you have drivers for both an addon sound card and onboard audio, the two battle for control and you get weird results.

I tried using the drive cleaner pro, and still, the same thing. This time I didn't have any blue screen problems though, only the volume problem. I do not have onboard audio. It is weird, because I have reinstalled windows 30 times or more, and never have had this happen. I may just have to live with it, unless there are other suggestions.
