I for some reason am unable to renew my ip.

I have tryed in command promt and even made a .bat that should renew my ip. I have tryed before but eventually gave up.

Im on comcast cable internet but just cannot figure out how to renew it or better yet why i cannot in the first place.

However i am on vista could this be why.

BTW this is the command i created for my .bat

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

What happens when you try?
It should either work or give an error message.

I get no error message. It acts as if it has worked; but then nothing happens.

EDIT:

I do get an error message when i try to enter it manually

there is the error i dont know what it means exactly though.

Unless it is simply saying i dont have permission to do it. In which case how do i allow myself to do it...damn i get tired of this vista permission crap

LOL EDIT AGAIN:

Ok it seems this problem is being caused by my static ip...i forgot i had it. I will remove it and see what happens. Also though before i had a static IP i had issues with renewing my ip.

EDIT:

After getting rid of the static ip the .bat still seemed to have no effect so i went in to try and do it manually.

It then SEEMED to work my internet disconnected and then refreshed. But it nothing seemed to change. When you renew and ip it should change it or something of that effect right?..Becuase of that is the case it did not seem to happy. Could it be do to the fact i have a router?

Do an "ipconfig /all" and post the results.

Yes, it could have to do with the router. In addition, renewing your IP address is no guarantee that you will actually get a new IP address, depending on how Comcast hands them out.

well try an ipconfig /all before and after your ipconfig /renew
see if it has changed at all, how is it set up with regard to getting IP from the router? hopefully it shoudl be DHCP and set to automatically get settings

You've got a router with NAT enabled. You aren't going to get another IP address unless you stick something else on the router after you release the IP but before you renew.

Why do you need a new IP address anyway? With NAT, the IP address you have isn't public and doesn't matter.
